They have been counted, although it might be difficult to see the ones which might be behind others, there is a whopping 53 wonderful lady slippers in this picture!! Lady slippers need the perfect soil to grow and expand. They like acidic and almost moldy type soil. Although it really is an old myth that it is illegal to pick this particular type of lady slipper, it really is useless to do so as they are very difficult to grow when moved to another location, many times dying.
