It is a rare occurence that you would see a sow give birth to five healthy young cubs here in Northern, NH. In 2007, in the left picture, you can see that one did. It is an extremely rare occurence that you can capture a photograph of such. Well in 2007 Tom Sears did just that - but it doesn't end there! In 2008, Tom thought he'd go back to where the familiar romp had been the previous year, and in an exceptionally rare photograph, you see the same family of bears in the right photo that following season!
Tom asked Publisher Bryan Flagg of The Northcountry News what he should do. Well, the rest is history! The Northcountry News ran the exclusive story with a full page with both pictures on it. After the paper hit the shelves, the phone calls and emails were endless. They came from all over the world and still do to this day!
We have been asked many times over from people across the country if the photos were fakes - I can assure you they are not. These six bear were also showing up at the offices of the Northcountry News during that time frame on a regular basis. We thank Tom Sears for allowing the Northcountry News to be a part of this very rare event.
