This page is dedicated to all those wonderful Letters To The Editor and Opinions
which we receive for each issue of the Northcountry News.
Unfortunately, some are very long and/or do not stick to our letter guidelines, or
they come in late, so we put them online to share them.
Letters are put in the paper on a first come basis and once we run out of room, they end up here online instead. So at the very least, we can share them with our readers.

To The Editor:
My name is John A. Semertgakis Jr. and I am writting to announce my candidacy for Police Chief in Warren, NH.
As you all know, there has been a lack of police presence in our town, and Public Safety has suffered. I want to eliminate the uncertainty that many of you feel concerning the position.
I have volunteered my time with the children of our community, as well as being an active member of the Warren Fire Department.
As Chief of Police, I plan to serve our town with the same dedication.
Thank You for your support.
John Semertgakis Jr.
Warren, NH

Nobody Asked, Just My Opinion!
Well, I am saddened to report that it is once again that time. Yet another year has passed since Maura Murray disappeared into seemingly thin air.
Maura Murray disappeared on 9 February 2004 after a one-car accident on New Hampshire Route 112 in Haverhill, New Hampshire.
Now, here it is 2012, eight years after her disappearance, and there is no suspect and her whereabouts still remain unknown.
We, at the Northcountry News have followed Maura’s case since it’s unfortunate beginning early in 2004.
Since that time, we have become friends with many of Maura’s family and friends, and we, like them, are still baffled at the entire case.
I?have always been a firm believer that someone out there knows something about this case. As much as some would like to think that Maura just all of a sudden disappeared into thin air, I for one just don’t believe that to be true and never will.
There’s just far too many discrepancies along the long trail of events.
Nope, personally, I think someone happened upon Maura and things went from bad to worse. I, like many others, have taken some heat over the years about how I feel about the case, but the bottom line is, I am not going to fall for the, “she wanted to disappear theory.” Never believed that and never will.
Like anything else, over the years, theories arise, people start stories they think are true or not, and many things get blown out of proportion or simply just don’t make sense.
There have been as many thoughts about this case as there have days gone by since 2004.
After all these years, I am still hopeful that at some point along the way, someone will come forward with some useful information about this case.
Cold cases get solved every day around this country, and there is no reason that someday, maybe Maura’s family and friends will learn just what happened that fateful day so long ago.
Until that time, we will continue to remember Maura, a beautiful and vibrant individual, who has now been missing for eight long years without an answer as to what happened.
Each year, we post this information in hopes that somebody just might remember something that happened that day. Any information is helpful and you can remain anonymous.
If you have information, please contact: the New Hampshire Cold Case Unit: Tips:

I have always been a firm believer that things happen for a reason and for everything there is a purpose, but you know, for the life of me, I haven’t yet been able to figure out what the purpose or reason behind Maura’s disappearance is! It’s senseless.
So to Maura’s family and friends, I once again find myself offering well wishes and positive thoughts that this case will be solved sooner than later.
I haven’t given up yet....
Nobody really asked, just my opinion!
